Did you know you can get quality free antivirus for your home PC? Most new computers purchased today come with 90day trail antivirus. Normally the user ends up with a virus shortly after the 90 days expire. Did you know that Avast offers it's antivirus for Home users? The boys at your local computer shop may tell you it's not as good as a "for pay" antivirus. I even had one of them tell me "you get what your pay for", and I couldn't help but laugh. I don't know if this guy just didn't know or if he was deceiving people, either way he was simply wrong. All of the "antivirus community" freely share information on known threats, they even rank them. They can't afford to have something out there that they don't know about. These infections on the home user PCs are also used in Denial of Service attacks as well. That's the reason Avast will let you use the antivirus for free. All you have to do is register your Avast and they will email you a registration code. This helps Avast protect it's business customers better by helping to keep down things like the dreaded DDOS attack. The best way to prevent this is to make antivirus available to everyone for free. Avast goes along way to reaching that goal. Make no mistake Avast will not protect your PC from all "threats", the free avast home user version does not catch some exploits, simply because these threats are not a virus but "spware" and "phishing" that just do not operate in the classic sense of the word. You'll notice if you are using Norton or Mcafee that the real time scan for spyware and phishing intrusions tend to make your computer run a lot slower as the trade off is performance for protection. There are a few other programs when combined with an informed users are more than enough to protect your PC. I will covering as many of those programs here as possible, so the next time someone tells you "you get what you pay for" simply reply "knowledge is power". |
